An Adequate Abridgement of Boarding School Life as a Homo
About the Show
Meet Johnny. 18, and in his final year at boarding school. He ambles through daily life, Britney in his ears, a flaming homosexual who fails miserably to fit into the school’s (rather rigid) mould. He daydreams of being a gay tragedy - but he even fails at that.
Enter Harry, a confident, charming, rugby lad. To save time, trepidation and a tired queer-baiting narrative - Johnny and Harry shag.
All. The. Time.
This is not a coming out story, it is not a gay tragedy, and it is not porn. It is life through the lens of a queer young man, navigating masculinity, Grindr and an institution that is rife with shame; doing it all with a sensational soundtrack and a hearty dose of laughter.

What did the professionals have to say?
"In terms of its wit, its insights, its pacing and its persuasive story arc, An Adequate Abridgement is a thoroughly assured piece of work. More than that, though, it’s a warm but playful celebration of difference and acceptance, and a reminder that what we want and what we need might not be quite the same thing."
UK Theatre Web
"This is a gem. Funny, tragic and beautifully performed." "the two actors relished the comedy and delighted in several cheeky twists in the story." "Catch it quick!"
Scots Gay Arts
"…we can all recognise a part of ourselves in these characters, we all want to be loved for who we are and Blackburn’s faultless writing coupled with beguiling performances from both actors ensures a excellent hour of drama worthy of anyone’s fringe diary."
"A gem on every level; a theatrical joy that with humour pulls at the heartstrings."
